Terrace Bay Continues to Work Towards Supportive Housing
The Supportive Housing Committee has been busy working on different activities evaluating the need for supportive housing for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities. The Steering Committee recently approved the hiring of FORM Architecture to conduct a feasibility study to determine the potential cost of a building of this type based on different potential locations. After discussions with local stakeholders and community representatives, the steering committee is working with the flexible target of a 20 unit facility somewhere in the Municipality. CAO Carmelo Notarbartolo says “A lot of the work so far has involved researching the process in providing such a service and identifying suitable partners. The Municipality has recently begun seeking potential partners in the private and non-profit sectors and would really like to work with an experienced partner in developing the building.” The expression of interest is being advertised in different newspapers in the region and is seeking partners that might build the facility and operate it with the Township assisting them in a variety of ways. The Expression of Interest period is open until December 16, 2011. The Steering Committee has also received over 50 surveys so far from the Community of potential users for the facility showing the need for this vital service.
