Thunderhawks’ Women’s Hockey Debuts In Blaine Minnesota
Confederation College Women’s Hockey Team Debuts at All American Tournament in Blaine, Minnesota
“The team went 1-2 for the weekend but that didn’t really tell the tale,” says Marshall Erickson, Head Coach. “We knew we had individual talent. The key, of course, is to see how they mesh as a team in a competitive environment. After some first period jitters, the team adjusted and these young women showed everyone they came to compete. The true test of a team’s character lies in its ability to adapt. The next 99 minutes of hockey, played over three games, was excellent.”
Nicole Spence, a product of the Red Lake Rams high school hockey program, notched three points in the Saturday afternoon game and Harmony Kemp earned the team’s first shutout. Competition was stiff as the Thunderhawks went up against teams from Wisconsin and Minnesota in the women’s division of the All American Girls’ and Women’s Tournament.
The All American Tournament is the largest female hockey tournament in the United States and is played at the largest ice arena in the United States, the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.
The Thunderhawks are scheduled for local play over the coming weeks and will continue training before the Lieutenant-Governor’s Tournament at the MTS arena complex in Winnipeg, Manitoba in February.
