OLOL Students Stand Up To Bullying
Life at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School
MANITOUWADGE, ON– November 18th was the International Stand Up To Bullying Day 2011 recognized at Our Lady of Lourdes School as School Council members organized a variety of afternoon activities for the students.
Mme. Nelson began the special afternoon addressing the school which had gathered in the Atrium. She shared a brief presentation of two video clips on Standing Up to Bullying. Following recess, the students enjoyed a nutritious snack provided by the School Council before getting to work on the projects they had been assigned earlier at the assembly. Students in each class first took a few moments to sign a pledge to Stand Up To Bullying before getting to work on collaborations, to compose a poem or a song, or to create a poster or mural on Standing up to bullying.
The students’ artistic interpretations of ‘Standing Up To Bullying’ will be shared at our next ACE awards assembly.
MORE INFO
International STAND UP to Bullying Day is a special bi-annual event (see link below) in which people across the world who have signed a special “pledge shirt” join together in wearing them to:
- 1) Send a loud, non-confrontational message of resistance to bullies
- 2) Identify themselves to victims as a source of support willing to help
- 3) Draw attention to the effects of bullying, and stimulate passive bystanders into action
The stand is taken globally; with pledge shirts and services being made available to schools and workplaces in 25 different countries. All registration takes place online.
