Trick or Eat Stocking FoodBank Shelves in Manitouwadge & Marathon
MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, October 22nd, Manitouwadge Volunteers gathered together to participate in the 2nd Annual Trick or Eat Food Drive organized by Natalie Labbee (aka The Northern Geisha). Local elementary and secondary school students as well as Junior & Senior Youth Groups from Bethany Pentacostal Assembly and several families came out, dressed in costume, to collect non-perishables door-to-door.
Collection bags, donated last year by Barrick Gold and Signs and Embroidery (Marathon) were used once again to help identify those collecting as participants. Food bank spokesperson Ruth MacDonald was relieved with the level of support shown “Our shelves were empty, this was much needed and will help many people in the community”. Volunteers were impressed with the quality of food donated as well, many snacks which could be used by families with school aged children and other staples to healthy diets like canned fruits, real juices and canned meats. Kids were thrilled that Labbee had chips and treat bags for each of those who volunteered.
Food banks volunteers remind Manitouwadge residents that while their generous donations are much appreciated, an estimated retail value of approximately $4000 of non-perishables being received – about double last year’s collection – Christmas is around the corner and continued donations are very important.
