Greenstone Celebrates Grand Opening of New Administration Building

GREENSTONE, ON  – Greenstone celebrated its 10th anniversary of its incorporation as the Municipality of Greenstone by unveiling their new Administration Building today.  The future is here and the Municipality of Greenstone has a bold new look with its custom built modern facility designed specifically for the amalgamated Council and administration.

The new building was designed by Reich + Petch Design International and constructed by R & L Contracting Inc.  The new building incorporates an energy-efficient design and is located at 1800 Main Street in the Geraldton ward overlooking Kenogamisis Lake.  The building boasts a modern formal Council Chambers exemplifying Greenstone’s bright future and entrance into the 21st Century.

“The new administration building is a symbol of the Municipality’s progressive look to the future and will improve municipal operations to support the future economic growth predicted for the region,” said Mayor Renald Beaulieu at the ribbon cutting.

The Grand Opening took place today from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a ribbon cutting at 5 o`clock and guided tours by staff for attending public and media. Many Greenstone residents and business people came out to celebrate this important milestone in the history of the Municipality of Greenstone.

Greenstone: The Municipality of Greenstone was created on January 1, 2001 by the amalgamation of the former municipalities of the Town of Geraldton, the Town of Longlac, the Township of Nakina and the Township of Beardmore, and an extensive area of unincorporated territory including numerous settlement areas such as; Caramat, Jelicoe, MacDiarmid and Orient Bay. Greenstone is located in the District of Thunder Bay and has an area of 3,172 sq km (1224 sq mi) making it one of the largest municipalities in Canada. The Greenstone Region is home to several aboriginal communities – Aroland, Ginoogaming, Long Lake 58, Sand Point, Rocky Bay, and Lake Nipigon Ojibway.
