TERRACE BAY, ON – The Township of Terrace Bay has several more environmentally friendly programs scheduled for the next few months. Green Education Coordinator Allison Dennis has been working on a variety of projects involving green activities, which will be rolling out shortly.
SCHEDULED GREEN INITIATIVES
Green Car Care Clinic
Terrace Bay is partnering with Spadoni Motors Ltd. to develop a free of charge Green Car Care Clinic on September 27, 2011. Participants will meet at the Spadoni Motors Ltd. dealership at 7:00pm to learn about basic vehicle maintenance, smart driving practices, and fuel efficient cars and trucks. Participants will also be entered to win a free “Green Car Care Package” courtesy of Spadoni Motors Ltd.
Hazardous Waste Recycling Day
The Municipality is also hosting yet another Hazardous Waste Recycling Day on Saturday October 15, 2011 from 12pm to 3pm at the Tourism Information Centre. Residents will be able to bring hazardous waste materials like paint, stain, batteries, propane tanks, and electronic waste materials including televisions, computers, printers to the depot which will then be sent away for recycling or safe disposal. For a full list of eligible materials, visit www.terracebay.ca/haz or go to the Terrace Bay Municipal Office.
Partnering with Schreiber and Ontario Electronic Stewardship
Terrace Bay, in partnership with the Township of Schreiber and Ontario Electronic Stewardship, will also be offering a free electronic waste drop off service at the landfill. Residents will be able to drop off materials at a large trailer during regular landfill hours which will be shipped off to Thunder Bay at a later date. Please note: this service will not be offered at the curb, and residents must physically drop off the materials themselves at the landfill. The service is expected to be operational sometime in October 2011.
RECYCLING EFFORTS
Terrace Bay also continues to research ways to develop a recycling service in the community. Staff is working with Recool and government partners to evaluate different possible ways to deliver the service in the most cost effective way.
