MANITOUWADGE, ON – Yesterday evening (September 21st), parents and caregivers of students attending Our Lady of Lourdes school gathered in the Prayer Atrium for a brief presentation by Principal Diane Nelson, part of the school’s Curriculum Night which occurs at the beginning of each school year.
Mme. Nelson’s presentation was to introduce those in attendance to the “TOGETHER WE LIGHT THE WAY” respect program which will be an integral part of the school year. The program follows last year’s training for both teachers and students of the WITS (Walk Away, Ignore, Talk, Seek Help) Program which was incredibly successful. If you are a parent or caregiver that was unable to attend last night’s presentation, contact the school at 826-3521 for more information. If the Principal’s enthusiasm for the program can be taken as an indication of how the school will respond, parents should expect to hear a great deal about it from their kids. Mme. Nelson was clearly excited about the program and the life-skills her students would draw from it.

Following the presentation, parents and caregivers were led to their child’s classroom, where teachers gave their own 20 minute presentation explaining the 2011-12 curriculum and their expectations for the year. Parents were also given the opportunity to have their questions about learning materials, class schedules, special events or any other school-related topics answered by the teachers or principal.
Finally, last night was the final chance for nominations for School Council, the Principal will go through submissions and the Council will be created. Parents should remember that it is not necessary to be a member of School Council to attend the meetings; parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.
What’s Next? Our Lady of Lourdes Open House will be held the first week of October, keep reading OntarioNewsNorth.com or check the school calendar for date/time of that and any other special events occurring at the school.
