Fires of Note
South Bay Complex – Marney Brown Incident Management Team
The official status of Red Lake District Fire Number 84 was updated from not under control to being held on August 30. Infrared scans are being done daily on active fire lines, seeking to locate hot spots for the fire crews to put out. Site rehabilitation and equipment removal from the fire areas that are out is ongoing. Heavy equipment is being used to assist in putting out chipper debris piles that continue to smoulder within the interior. Consolidated fire lines and active fire suppression means that spread on the fire perimeter is not expected
The NOTAM over the South Bay Complex has been rescinded, however the no fly zone buffer of five nautical miles remains in effect over the fire. Aircraft intending to enter the restricted airspace are required to call the South Bay Complex Incident Management Team in advance to acquire permission by calling (613) 693-1143. Advance requests must be received a minimum of 24 hours before a scheduled flight.

Rain is forecasted overnight, cloud cover will persist with sunny periods continuing into the weekend.
A NOTAM advisory is in effect over Red 124. Due to safety concerns, no requests for flights into the NOTAM area will be unconditionally approved between 08:30 and 19:00. The flight may be required to occur before 08:30 or after 19:00 Pilots planning a flight into the area are to call 807-729-4313 or 780-891-0655 to request clearance to fly into the NOTAM area. Please note it is preferred that requests be submitted a minimum of 24 hours before the flight. Helicopters are still bucketing and slinging inside the fire area, so aircraft must always watch carefully for low-level traffic and continue to respect the NOTAM operational requirements.

Safety Message
The long weekend is upon us, if you’re planning to enjoy a camp or shore lunch fire, people should remain cautious and follow safe burning guidelines. Build a small fire versus a large fire, on bare rock or dirt, never leave it unattended and make sure to put it dead out before leaving.
