Manitouwadge Common Registration Night Numbers Down

MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Annual Common Registration Night was held in Manitouwadge Wednesday night in the Recreation Centre Auditorium.  There were approximately 16 groups in attendance though some tables had representatives for more than one group however attendance numbers were significantly lower than past years with some groups like Confederation College even choosing to pack up early.

School of Rock Owner Keith Johnson answers questions from interested parents. Johnson has successfully grown his business over the past year expanding to offer lessons in Marathon, Manitouwadge and Schreiber.

Among those groups, businesses and organizations who had information available to the public were Nite on the Town Entertainment Series which offered the opportunity for people to put their names in for a free draw for series tickets won by Barry Courtemanche and Judy Kett respectively.

Vanessa Wastila-Courtemanche, Owner of Happily Ever Crafter was in attendance taking registrations for her after school crafting classes and sharing information on adult and child classes that will be offered throughout the fall.  Courtemanche seems to have answered a need within the community with most classes quickly filling to capacity, and both boys and girls finding sessions to suit their interests.  If you’d like more info contact the store during regular business hours at 228-3040 or email at HappilyEverCrafter@hotmail.com .

Marjorie House, Superior North Victim Services, the Golden Age Club, Manitouwadge Learning Centre (Adult Education in French & English) and Our Lady of Lourdes School each had tables with information regarding the services they have available to the community. While Township Community Programmer Shawna Patterson manned a table with a ton of information about upcoming community events including the “Fall Affair” which is a full day of fall festival type games and contests including Pie Making, Pie Eating, Scarecrow Relay and others sure to offer fun for families and kids of all ages.

Patterson, also responsible for the organization of the Annual Common Registration Night, was at a loss to explain the decline in numbers Wednesday night, saying only that “People are funny in Manitouwadge” in regards to attendance of such events.  This however did not seem consistent with what was heard from residents and even those businesses and groups who chose to participate.  One business explained that “I wasn’t even aware of it until yesterday” (coincidentally Patterson had waited until the day prior to post a message in OntarioNewsNorth.com’s ticker, in spite of having been urged to use a real advertisement to back this up), the business owner added that “I often don’t have time to look over the adbag right away and so hadn’t seen the Forecaster in it”.  This was repeated by several attendees, frustrated at the lack of communication by the township for recent events.

If you have suggestions for the township regarding how they can best communicate with you, including requests to have more information shared with your local, daily newspaper OntarioNewsNorth.com we urge you to contact Patterson at the township by phone 826-3227 or via email at shawna@manitouwadge.ca
