MPP Reminds Constituents To Submit Comments for CLUAH Project

MPP Mike Brown Reflects On CLUAH Public Sessions Encouraging Constituents To Submit Comments

Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Brown

As many of my constituents know, I attended four of the five public presentations and meetings regarding the Crown Land Use Atlas Harmonization initiative of the Ministry of Natural Resources.  The open houses were lively and informative.

To be clear, the open houses were an opportunity to give the public a voice on Crown Land access issues.  Four basic proposals were presented for comment.  These proposals were to harmonize the existing access rules.  These rules have been in place for many years, even decades, and are impacted by forest industry harvesting plans, allocations made to remote tourist operators many years ago, mining interests, cottaging interests, anglers, trappers and hunters. CLUAH is an attempt to clarify these access rules made under various previous governments.  If CLUAH does not go forward, the existing regulations that are impacted by Forest Management Plans and Environmental Bump Ups, etc., will stay in place.

I believe that “Option A” represents the views that I heard.  It provides the maximum access while providing for jobs and economic activity.  I urge all my constituents to make their personal views known through the EBR process.  I want you to support the balanced goals of access and jobs that Option A represents.  But regardless of the choice made, I urge all of you to comment.

If this process does not go forward, access may be lost and jobs put at risk.  Remember, as a wise man once said, “For every complex problem there is a simple but wrong solution”.

Be part of the right solution.  Put your views in writing and submit them.
