MARATHON, ON – July 1st Marathon Summerfest 2011 was kicked off with their 2nd Annual Summerfest Parade. The parade was much larger than last year’s and included many fun entries and colourfully decorated boats. Later, at the Fish Derby Registration, Captains’ Meeting and Opening Ceremonies, held at the Marathon Recreation Centre Arena, top 3 entries, as chosen by Summerfest judges, were recognized:
3rd Place – Just in Time
2nd Place – Pukaskwa Park
1st Place – WINNING PARADE ENTRY – Black Pearl
Town of Marathon Mayor Rick Dumas also welcomed everyone to Summerfest 2011 (a message to Marathon & area residents from Mayor Dumas’ below, scroll down & click play), thanked volunteers for their efforts and encouraged everyone to participate in all the week’s activities. Summerfest Organizer Andre Paris said a few words thanking volunteers and participants as well and Summerfest had officially begun!
Congratulations to the parade winners and two thumbs up to all the participants for their community spirit! Organizer Andre Paris encourages everyone to begin planning their entry for 2012 reminding businesses and area residents that while boats are backbone of the Summerfest Parade, they are not mandatory and all entries are welcome!
