McGuinty Government Names Council Of The Federation Award Winner

Ningwakwe George, a passionate advocate for literacy who inspires Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, is the winner of Ontario’s 2011 Council of the Federation Literacy Award.

Premier Dalton McGuinty honoured Ms. George for her grassroots and international leadership and innovative, holistic approach to indigenous literacy issues. She is the founder of Ningwakwe Learning Press, a non-profit organization that publishes literacy and education resources.

Honouring leaders in literacy is part of Putting Students First, the McGuinty government’s plan to ensure that everyone has access to a high-quality education and training system that equips them with the knowledge and skills for the jobs of the future.
