One Young Man Deceased, Another Injured Police Investigation On Going In Poplar Hill
OPP INVESTIGATING DEATH IN POPLAR HILL
POPLAR HILL, ON – July 22, 2011 at approximately 10:00pm officers with Nishnawbe Aski Police Service were dispatched to a male passed out on Smooth Rock Road in the First Nation community of Poplar Hill, approximately 120 kilometres north of Red Lake. Upon arrival of police it was determined that the male was suffering from serious injuries and he was subsequently transported to the nursing station in Poplar Hill.
At approximately 10:30pm 20 year old Aaron STRANG of Poplar Hill First Nation was pronounced deceased. A post mortem examination is scheduled for July 25, 2011 in Kenora.
On July 23, 2011 at approximately 2:00am 21 year old Jobby STRANG from Poplar Hill First Nation drove himself to the nursing station in Poplar Hill seeking medical attention. He was subsequently airlifted to Winnipeg with non life-threatening injuries.
Nishnawbe Aski Police Service with the assistance of the North West Region Crime Unit and the Criminal Investigation Branch under the direction of Detective Inspector Dan Davidson, are investigating the circumstances surrounding both incidents and whether or not the two are related.
The investigation is continuing.
