INCREASE IN CALLS AT GREENSTONE OPP DETACHMENT
Greenstone, ON – With the increase in population in Geraldton and Longlac the Ontario Provincial Police Greenstone Detachment has seen an increase in the number of calls for service over the same time period last year. This increase in call volume is nothing more than one would expect with additional people in the community.
From July 1 this year, Greenstone OPP has responded to 494 calls for service. Whereas the same time period last year Greenstone OPP responded to 349 calls. In order to deal with the increase in calls there is a minimum of 5 officers per day working in Greenstone from surrounding detachments.
The majority of calls have been 911 dialed in error, police assistance, police information, trouble with youth and Liquor Licence Act violations. These 5 incident types have accounted for 187 calls.
The most serious incident was an assault causing bodily harm where the victim was hospitalized and suffered non-life threatening injuries. A suspect has been identified and this investigation is still ongoing.
Officers will continue to be visible in the communities. They will be looking for offences being committed as well as responding to calls as they come in.
