Communicating with Evacuated Sandy Lake Residents
CENTRAL REGISTRATION NUMBER FOR SANDY LAKE EVACUEES
WAWA, ON – the Canadian Red Cross has now set up a Central Registration & Inquiry Bureau (CRIB) for all evacuees from Northern Ontario including the Sandy Lake visitors currently residing in Wawa.
Now friends and relatives can contact any of the evacuees by calling 1-866-356-3645 Ext. 236 and staff will provide the appropriate information. At times, the centre may be short staffed so callers are requested to leave a message if necessary.
Our friends from Sandy Lake continue to adapt to their new surroundings in Wawa. The Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre was the hub of activity last night with bingo and other activities ongoing.
“The response from our volunteers and community has been tremendous” stated Mayor Linda Nowicki. The Mayor went on to say “We continue to encourage anybody who wishes to volunteer to come forward and register. Whether you are a licensed bus driver or have administrative skills, your help is always needed.”
Anybody wishing to volunteer is encouraged to call the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre at 705-856-2244 Ext.240
