St. Martin Students Busy in June
St. Martin Students Raise the Roof
The JK/SK class of Mrs. Brosseau and the Grade 7/8 class of Mrs. Godin, in conjunction with student council, teamed up to answer their call for service by putting their faith into action through joint initiatives. Collaboratively they fundraised to assist their parish, St. Martin, with a new roof . June 16th, the two classes presented Father Raul and St. Martin Parish with a big cheque for $1068 representing the total amount the two classes raised with the support of the students, parents and staff of St. Martin School.
Old MacDonald Had A Farm
A needy village will soon be singing this song as they receive a farmyard of animals for their village. The JK/SK class of Mrs. Brosseau and the Grade 7/8 class of Mrs. Godin, in conjunction with student council, teamed up to purchase a small farm consisting of pigs, goats, chickens, ducks and rabbits which will provide an impoverished family with a steady source of income and an ongoing source of nourishment. This gift will not only assist one family, but an entire community will benefit from a fully stocked farmyard.
Let the Games Begin
The students of St. Martin’s Student Council presented the long term residents of Wilkes Terrace with two Wii games, Price is Right and Family Feud ,to add to their collection. A previous St. Martin Gr.7/8 class had purchased the Wii system for the Long Term residents, but student council figured it was time to add to the collection with games so that the residents would have games that challenged the residents intellectually, as well as physically.
St. Martin Students Compete in Annual Track and Field Meet
Monday, June 20th 27 students from St. Martin school travelled to Manitouwadge, where they competed against 6 other schools in a variety of running and field events. These dedicated students had spent the entire month of June preparing for this meet, with daily practices after school. They were very prepared for their individual events and demonstrated this in their extraordinary performance, awarding them several first, second, and third place ribbons. Congratulations to Julie Bouchard who tied first place for the most points in her age category (13-14). We are proud of each of the students for their participation, effort, and exemplary display of Sportmanship on and off the field. Way to go!!
St. Martin School Council Hosts Annual Summer Fun Night
On Wednesday, June 22nd the St. Martin School Council hosted the Annual Summer Fun Night. Despite the miserable weather the attendance was exceptional and children, parents, and staff enjoyed food and games in the gym. Our chefs, Robin Gordon, Brent Monks, and Pete Desjardins barbequed hot dogs and hamburgers for close to 100 people, and parents, Mandy Monks and Cathryn St. Louis organized games (run by former St. Martin School students) and passed out treats and prizes to all in attendance. All staff was in attendance to offer assistance and enjoy the evening with students and parents in an exciting atmosphere. The dedication of the St. Martin Community continues to be alive in all activities!
