There were no new confirmed fires reported at the time of this report on June 3.

Currently there are two active fires situated in the Thunder Bay district both receiving rainfall today. Thunder Bay Fire Number 22 located 38 kilometres east of Savant Lake on the CN railway line near the Allanwater Bridge in the Wabakimi Provincial Park is listed as under control at 1,317 hectares.

Thunder Bay Fire Number 23 is also in the Wabakimi Provincial Park, located west of Change Lake and north of Windfall Lake. An assessment of this 0.3 hectare fire determined that it would benefit the ecological integrity and health of the area which is adapted to periodic disturbance by fire. It will be monitored as it burns to natural boundaries.

The weather forecast is expected to bring sunny and cooler temperatures for the weekend with moderate to strong north-westerly winds and temperatures in the low to mid teens dropping to the high single digit range across the northwest. The Fire hazard remains moderate in the south to low in the northern sections of the Northwest Region.
