Local Newcomer Youth Get Ahead By Giving Back
Gravelle announces $37,761 for Thunder Bay Multicultural Centre youth programs

Through Ontario’s Youth Opportunities Program,the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association has received $37,761 to provide mentorship, leadership training and community engagement activities for newcomer and immigrant youth. Participants will gain marketable skills, and build social and professional networks through volunteering and collaborating with community leaders.
Immigrant and newcomer youth in Thunder Bay will be able to develop skills while giving back to their neighbourhood and cultural communities.

They are proof that young people want to and can make a difference” said Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, he continued explaining “They show us, through their contributions to building stronger communities, that youth really can change the world and build a brighter future for all Ontarians.”

This program develops relationships, connection to community and networks for young people new to Canada. Newcomer youth participants, community organizations and volunteer mentors will all benefit from “My Town”. It is an introduction to the workplace for newcomer youth, enhances cultural understanding within organizations and enhances leadership skills and coaching/training abilities in the mentors.” Cathy Woodbeck, Executive Director, Thunder Bay Multicultural Association.
