Entourage Commences Phase 1 Drill Program at Toothpick West in Hemlo Region
June 02, 2011
VANCOUVER, BC –(Marketwire) –Entourage Metals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:EMT) (the”Company“) is pleased to announce that the Phase 1 diamond drill program has commenced at its Toothpick West project in the Hemlo Region of NW Ontario. This first phase of drilling will be up to 5,000 meters based on geological, geophysical, and geochemical targets.
Entourage Metals entered into an option agreement with Barrick Gold to acquire 100% interest in the exploration of the Toothpick West and Rous Lake properties located along the mineralized trend of the Hemlo Gold Deposits.
The Hemlo Belt Properties are located in the Thunder Bay Mining District in Northern Ontario, approximately 230 km east of Thunder Bay. The property has excellent road access and infrastructure with close proximity to rail, air and power.
Toothpick West
The historical drilling at Toothpick West has defined a westerly plunge to the hanging wall contact of the Porphyry Zone (6.3 gpt Au over 6.3 m). These plunge lines of mineralization are very similar to what is seen in the Hemlo Deposits further east and along trend.
Entourage will test mineralized plunge lines at depth and along strike. This plunge of the mineralization eventually led to the discovery of the Hemlo Deposit. Several areas of anomalous mineralization exist that need to be tested.
Rous Lake
The 2011 Drill Program will also target the Rous Lake property, the eastern edge of the property is 2.5 km west of Barrick’s Hemlo gold deposit. The Phase 1 program for Rous Lake will commence in the third quarter of 2011.
Exploration targets will be identified at Rous Lake based on the compilation of historical data, geochemistry, and geophysics.
The geological understanding of the belt and its mineralization has improved in the decades since Hemlo was discovered in 1981. A majority of these targets lie below 300 meters vertical depth; limited historical exploration has been accomplished at these depths.
Northern Arm Properties
Entourage will also conduct surface mapping and sampling to refine drill targets on the Northern Arm Property. These properties are located in an underexplored mineralized trend in the Hemlo Greenstone Belt. The Geology at the Northern Arm Properties is similar to Barrick’s Hemlo Gold Mine, located approximately 15 km to the south. The property is accessible by logging roads or lakes which connect to paved roads.
The Hemlo Deposit has produced over 20.3 million ounces of gold to date (MNDM OFR 6182 and 6246). Compared to other greenstone belts this area has remained relatively untapped and underexplored. Gold was first discovered in the Hemlo area in 1981, leading to a staking rush and exploration work in the early 1980’s. Current producing mines include Barrick’s David Bell, Golden Giant, and Williams Mine defining a large continuous body of gold mineralization now known as the Hemlo Gold Mines.
The 2011 exploration program for the Hemlo area properties are under the supervision of John C. Florek, P.Geo, Vice-President Exploration for Entourage Metals; who is a Qualified Person as defined by NI 43-101. Mr. Florek prepared and approved the information contained in this release.
