Cops Help Kids Get Hooked at Rainbow Falls
Terrace Bay, ON
: Local police and conservation officers will be helping children learn the joys of fishing this summer during the
4th Annual Rainbow Falls Bass Blast Kids Fishing Day
EAST BEACH Rainbow Falls Provincial Park
Saturday, July 9 11:30 – 3:30
Organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Nipigon District, and Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police, the derby will take place from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm on the East Beach of Rainbow Falls Provincial Park. All anglers are asked to bring their own fishing gear and a personal floatation device. However, there will be free bait and a limited number of rods, reels, PFDs and canoes to borrow on a first-come-first-serve basis. The first 20 vehicles will receive a free day-pass to the park.
All participants can look forward to prizes, giveaways, and a barbeque lunch. This year’s grand prize will be given to a randomly selected participant who catches and releases a fish or makes a fish impression painting. OPP and Conservation Officers will be on hand throughout the day in boat and on shore to help the kids reel in a big one.
Also July 2 to 10: the annual Ontario Family Fishing Week. For one full week, Canadian residents can enjoy the fun of fishing in Ontario without the need of a licence!
The Rainbow Falls event is sponsored by Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects. It is also supported by the Police Association of Ontario, Canadian Tire, and the Lions Club of Gananonque.
Fishing Forever chair Bob Izumi is an avid supporter of recreational fishing for both the young and the young at heart. “I love to create opportunities for children and families to go fishing,” states Izumi. “Fishing is one of the very best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children.”
