- White River’s Health Fair was a great success, in addition to local residents, visitors from Manitouwadge, Pic Mobert and Wawa received information from a myriad of presenting regional participants from as far as Sault Ste. Marie.
WHITE RIVER, ON – The White River Health Committee hosted a phenomenal Health Fair at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 169 on May 9th, 2011. Entrance to the event was a coin collection with proceeds going towards the purchase of doc-lite equipment for the medical centre.
Along with the many participants, including those from White River, in attendance were participants from Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa, Hornepayne, and Pic Mobert. We were honoured to include Gilles Bisson MPP, from Timmins-James Bay, who held a captive audience discussing the hot topic Agent Orange.
Sister Susan and Sister Jude from the neighbouring community of Pic Mobert First Nation provided a wealth of information related to spiritual health as well as details of various services they provide for other aspects of healthy living such as their bi-weekly footcare clinics, drug committee, etc. "Whenever anything positive is going on in our community we work to support it with our attendance and encouragement" explained Sister Jude.
The White River Health Committee wishes to thank all participants including The Ladies Auxiliary for the wonderful lunch, and Branch 169 for the donation of the hall, Filane’s Canadian Spring Water, Spadoni’s Home Hardware, and North Central Co-operative Store for their assistance in making the event a success.
Thank you committee members, John Cottom, Carol Lambert, Judy Fuller, Jean Morgan, Arlene McCorry,N.P. , Dr. Velicaria, Mayor Angelo Bazzoni, Jocelyne LeBreton, Velma Desmoulin.
