Happy Birthday Parks Canada!
Come celebrate 100 years on May 15th!
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – Parks Canada is marking its 100th birthday by offering new and unforgettable experiences to visitors. On Sunday, May 15, the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site is holding a special event to kick off a summer full of exciting centennial activities!
Everyone is invited to celebrate the start of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal’s 2011 summer season and Parks Canada’s 100th birthday. A showcase of this season’s new on-site activities will start at 1pm. The whole family can enjoy a historic guided tour by costumed heritage presenters, live local music, fly fishing demonstrations, a nature walk and more. Bring a picnic lunch, blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an afternoon of old-fashioned fun!
Also being launched on May 15 is the Canal’s newest program – 100 Moments for 100 Years. Visitors to the site will be able to register and log the time they spend taking part in a variety of activities and programs, at the Canal, throughout the summer. Prizes will be awarded to those who participate in the most moments! Details on this program can be obtained at the site’s Visitor Centre
Registration for the May 15 th event begins that day at 12:30pm in the Visitor Centre. Participants will receive tour times and a schedule of events. Regular program fees of $2.90 per person apply.
