Green Month in Terrace Bay
TERRACE BAY, ON – May is GREEN MONTH in Terrace Bay and the township is hosting a variety of green events that are attracting a lot of attention from throughout the region!
The big event is the 2011 Green Tradeshow, Saturday May 14, 2011, from 12pm to 4pm at the Terrace Bay Arena. This year’s Tradeshow will feature a great selection of green products, services, and activities from exhibitors throughout the region. It will also feature an announcement by the Jackfish Bay Remedial Action Program and show off an incredible video highlighting the history of the famous ghost town. Visitors will be impressed with the exibitor booths and this year’s show will be featuring more use of video to enhance the understanding of the products, services, and ideas featured.
The following week after the Green Tradeshow is the annual Terrace Bay/Schreiber Spring Cleanup Week. Residents are being asked to hold onto any eligible materials for the special hazardous waste recycling day to be held Saturday May 28th. Eligible materials include paint, stain, propane tanks, electronic and much more featured at the webpage www.terracebay.ca/haz. Previous year’s event have been extremely successful in diverting these types of materials away from the landfill to be recycled.
Finally, the municipality will be hosting a workshop on backyard composting, Wednesday May 25th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. The workshop will feature the theories behind composting, how to setup a backyard composting system, as well as general advice for composting in Northwestern Ontario and preventing visits from the local wildlife.
