Confederation College to Build BioEnergy Centre

"Students, academia and industry will have the chance to interact in the bio-energy plant researching new sources of renewable energy and building relationships vital to economic growth in the region." Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry, and chair of the NOHFC

A new bioenergy learning and research centre at Confederation College will create six new jobs and support research into new sources of clean, renewable energy in the Thunder Bay area.

With support from the province, the college will build a bio-energy plant that will produce enough clean, renewable energy to heat the college’s Shuniah building and the new REACH facility. The centre will also allow students to conduct hands-on research.

Making infrastructure improvement in Northern Ontario communities is a key component of the plan laid out in Ontario’s 2011 Budget – Turning the Corner, to create and support 10,000 new and existing jobs for Ontario families and to strengthen local economies.
