New Democrat wins contentious campaign in Thunder Bay-Superior North
THUNDER BAY, ON – New Democrat Bruce Hyer has been re-elected in Thunder Bay-Superior North to his second term as MP, with a strengthened mandate. The riding had been targeted by both the Liberal and Conservative national campaigns, with visits by all leaders over the course of the country’s 41st election.
“I am humbled and overwhelmed by this vote of confidence,” said Hyer, at the end of his fourth federal campaign. “The people of Thunder Bay-Superior North have spoken, and I am honoured that they have re-hired me to fight for them in Ottawa. Tomorrow morning you are not just voters…. but constituents, for whom I work. With a strengthened mandate, I and my New Democrat colleagues, will work toward a better Northwestern Ontario and a better Canada.”
“I’d like to thank all my volunteers and supporters who worked tirelessly over the last five weeks and made this victory possible,” said Hyer, who also acknowledged his competition “I know Green Party Candidate Scot Kyle cares deeply about our planet, and the people of our region. He contributed greatly to the debate this election by bringing important environmental issues to the fore. And Nipigon is fortunate to have a dedicated mayor in Richard Harvey. I look forward to working with him in the future for the benefit of the region.”
In his speech, Hyer committed to keeping his open door policy, and to continue to put constituents first. Parliament will resume before the summer with a new Throne Speech and Budget.
