MARATHON, ON – Marathon FAST Club and Pukakswa National Park are working in partnership to present the Pukakswa Duathlon Race on May 28 2011. This race consists of a 5km run, 20km bike, and 2.5km run completed one after another. For those unfamiliar with these types of events this will be a particularly enjoyable event to choose as your first to race or to watch. Participants will meet at the Visitors Center at 12:30 pm for a brief meeting of rules and special notes and then all will set off together on the first run at 1:00 pm. For Pukakswa Park this will be an unusual sight. Known primarily for its rugged shorelines and challenging inland hiking trails where visitors are used to seeing backpacks and canoes the park is opening itself to new and unique events like the Duathlon. Organizers of this event are anything but “first-timers”. The FAST club has organized the Penn Lake Pursuit Triathlon for the past 5 summers in the town of Marathon attracting participants from across Ontario. The club is sanctioned by the Ontario Association of Triathletes and planned events meet rigorous risk management standards so that athletes will have the most fun they can and be safe while they participate. Entry into the race is open to anyone 16 years and older. All participants must where an approved helmet with a fastened chin strap for the cycling portion and bikes need to be safe with working brakes.

The club was begun in 2004 to assist interested people to meet up and share training ideas with each other. Combining rigorous training and personal committment has led to numerous overall and age group podium finishes for our members.
