Thunder Bay OPP Busy During This Morning’s Commute

OPP REMIND DRIVERS SLOW DOWN WHEN THERE ARE POOR WEATHER / DRIVING CONDITIONS
Thunder Bay, ON – Monday, February March 7th 2011, Thunder Bay OPP responded to a number of motor vehicle collisions during the morning commute.
At approximately 7:10 am, Officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the Municipality of Shuniah. A 2005 KIA Sorento was west bound on Highway 11/17, just west of Highway 527, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled over in the east bound ditch. The driver was taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre by ambulance, as a precaution. The vehicle sustained moderate damage.
At approximately 8:40 am, Officers responded to a two vehicle collision involving an Iron Range school bus and a 2004 Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda Accord was east bound on Highway 102, near Kuusisto Road, when she lost control of her vehicle, and collided with a west bound school bus causing the school bus to strike several guide rails as it went into the east bound ditch.
The Honda Accord sustained substantial damage, while the school bus sustained moderate damage. There were no students on the school bus at the time of the collision and there were no injuries. The female driver of the Honda Accord was charged with Fail to Drive in Marked Lane under the Highway Traffic Act.
At approximately 9:10 am, Officers responded to a Disabled Tractor trailer at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Highway 102. A 2008 Volvo tractor trailer was east bound on Highway 11/17, while making a left turn onto Highway 102, the steering arm broke causing the tractor trailer to come to a stop blocking the west bound lane of Highway 11 /17 and Highway 102. Officers conducted traffic control for approximately 2 ½ hours until the tractor trailer was removed from the highway.
