Terrace Bay Downtown Revitalization

The Terrace Bay downtown revitalization project is almost complete and residents have been impressed with the construction of the large sidewalk signage structures.  The structures are made from a dark brown douglar fir wood and will later have signage erected advertising the plaza to the travelling public.  The signs range in size from 30 feet with the two large signs on the sides and 40 feet with the large sign in the middle of the plaza.  Recent activities in the project include detailed finishing on the pine soffit being installed under the canopy and the completion of the Terrace Bay Lighthouse.  Although the lighthouse will not be opened to the public until May 2011 at the earliest due to necessary painting, it has served as a barometer for the project and its finished look is a welcome site.  The lighthouse is a 50 foot replica of the lighthouse at the Slate Islands and will allow visitors to climb the staircase and take in amazing views of Terrace Bay and Lake Superior.

Project Activities still to be completed over the next 3 weeks include installation of new LED street lights, installation of seat benches, covering of existing column poles with a consistent look, and installation of new highway signage for the Municipality and its tourist attractions.  Also, a series of dark and light blue waves will be installed on the canopy soon to give it a themed look of Lake Superior and then the business signage will be placed over top.  The project will still have some minor seasonal deficiencies in landscaping and painting of sidewalks and parking lines, but for the most part should be completed at the end of March.  For more information on the Terrace Bay downtown revitalization project, check out www.terracebay.ca/drp.
