TERRACE BAY, ON – 1,2,3, JUMP! What happened in the St. Martin School gym that involved sweat, jumping, and a lot of fun? The students participated in the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s ‘Jump Rope for Heart’ and ‘Hoops for Heart’ events on the afternoon of Friday, February 18. The students were asked to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation and bring it in on the day of the event. In total, $618 was raised!
Students got a very good work out and got their hearts pumping from many activities. “My favourite game was Snakey because it was really, really fun and it made me sweat!” said Owen Szczepaniak. The primary students (JK- Grade 4) participated in jump rope activities which included Snakey, jumping with hula hoops, and a jump rope maze. Jorja Fournier said she enjoyed hula hoop jumping the best. Two students from the Grade 5/6 class helped by instructing the younger kids at each station.
Following the Jump Rope for Heart activities were the older students (Grades 5-8), who participated in ‘Hoops for Heart’. The two stations that got their hearts pumping were ‘Bump’ and ‘Around the World’, which both focus on shooting baskets. “My heart was pounding after that intense game of Bump!” exclaimed Breanne Woods. Another station was about setting goals to stay healthy and active.
Overall, the events that day were exhilarating and fun. It helped the students to always remember to keep their heart healthy and stay active!
