MCAG Hopes Shoppers Will Give A Helping Hand
MANITOUWADGE, ON –The Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group (MCAG) has announced their Spring Fundraiser, Helping Hands. Shoppers buying groceries at F.P.Gorges and Sons (Frank’s) during the month of April will be offered the opportunity to give a donation to the MCAG and sign a handprint which will be put up in the window of the store. There will also be a Fund-meter here on OntarioNewsNorth.com (left) to watch and see how funds are adding up. The MCAG hopes that Manitouwadge’s generosity towards their group will continue during the 30-day initiative.
When the MCAG approached Frank’s to suggest the fundraiser, thought up by the Hogan sisters Nikki and Shelley, the community focused grocer was glad to be involved. Their enthusiasm came as no surprise to the MCAG’s executive as the Gorges Family have been long time supporters of the MCAG since its creation 4 years ago.
The MCAG raises funds for families and individuals in Manitouwadge who are financially stressed by the challenges that come with facing cancer and the added complications of doing so while living in an somewhat isolated Northern Ontario community. Financial assistance is available for any number of reasons from the costs of travelling for tests, treatments and follow-ups to medication costs.
Helping Hands will continue through April 30th. The next fundraiser for the Manitouwadge Cancer Assistance Group will be their Annual Share the Care Walk, scheduled for May 14th (rain date May 15th). The walk has become a can’t-miss community event which brings neighbours of all ages out to walk, run, bike, roll with family and friends from the Recreation Centre to Geco Bridge and back. Walkers collect pledges in advance and a barbecue winds up the afternoon, keep reading OntarioNewsNorth.com for details as they become available.
If you or someone you love needs assistance from the MCAG simply contact any of the committee members; President Anne Williams, Vice-President Jackie Jung, Secretary Debbie Ray, Treasurer Darlene Tessier, Betty Oksanen, Priscilla Gray, Nickie Chik, Shelley Hogan, Flo Campbell, or Clare Milks. The request for assistance can also be written by a friend or family member.
