HUGHES BRINGS CHILD PORNOGRAPHY FIGHT TO HOUSE OF COMMONS

OTTAWA, ON – Canadians do not accept child pornography and Parliament needs to make sure that message is heard by the CRTC and internet service providers. That is the message Carol Hughes brought to the House of Commons toady.
Tabling a petition from the residents of Elliot Lake, Hughes noted the people who signed it are supportive of the group Canadians Addressing Sexual Exploitation and their campaign to reign in the perpetrators who use the internet as a base for their crimes.
“Child pornography is clearly reprehensible,” said Hughes. “( and) The sad fact is, that with emerging technologies, there are more opportunities than ever to acquire it.”
The petition calls on Parliament to protect children by taking all the necessary steps to stop the internet as a medium for the distribution of child victimization/pornography.
“There is no place in our society for child pornography. It is not a victimless crime,” said Hughes. “It derails lives and destabilizes families and communities.”
Hughes called on the government to honour the wishes of her constituents and so many people across Canada who are engaged in the struggle against child pornography.
