Federal Liberal Candidate François Cloutier addresses Elliot Lake Chamber of Commerce
ELLIOT LAKE, ON – François Cloutier, the Federal Liberal Candidate for Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing, March 31st, addressing the Elliot Lake Chamber of Commerce at its annual general meeting. Cloutier supports Elliot Lake’s continued efforts to grow as a vibrant and sustainable retirement community, but sees a crucial need for local job creation.
“I have deep roots in this riding and I share the challenges of its citizens each and every day,” said Cloutier. “One of the issues I’m hearing about from people in all corners of this riding is jobs. Our local economies depend on strong and sustainable jobs. I have a proven track record of creating jobs and economic development. And I know how to bring people together to get things done.”
March 26th, Cloutier kicked off his campaign for the May 2 federal election in Elliot Lake. Since winning the federal Liberal nomination in August 2009, he has devoted himself full-time to the riding of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing. Cloutier is focused on returning financial prosperity and stability to the region by implementing policies outlined in the Liberal Party’s “Rural Canada Matters” platform: attracting more doctors and nurses to northern communities, ensuring 100% high speed internet access, and supporting local agriculture through a national food policy.
“I believe we as Canadians owe it to ourselves to ensure we are a socially progressive country,” Cloutier explains. “This means implementing new health care policies like a compassionate leave to help caregivers provide for their loved ones. This means improving access to education and training for Canada’s students. This means addressing the needs of First Nations communities, including education, housing and health care. This all adds up to equal access to health care, jobs, and education, no matter where you live in this great country of ours.”
François Cloutier is currently hard at work on the campaign trail in the riding of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing, the region once represented by former Liberal Prime Minister and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Lester B. Pearson.
