Thunder Bay, ON – Wednesday, February 16th 2011, Thunder Bay OPP Officers conducted several seatbelt compliance spotchecks across the Thunder Bay OPP detachment area. Officers stopped approximately 150 vehicles and issued 4 Offence Notices for seatbelt infractions.
T/S/Sgt Ken Mantey states “In 2010, 21 people were killed on North West Region Roadways, with 14 people not wearing their seatbelt. Although statistics across the province reveal a high compliance rate, regional statistics reveal that 67 % of the people involved in fatal collisions in 2010 were not wearing their seatbelts”
Thunder Bay OPP want to remind the public that the seatbelt legislation has been in effect for the past 35 years and Officers will continue to conduct seatbelt spotchecks and ensure the motoring public is buckled up.
SEATBELTS SAVE LIVES, PLEASE BUCKLE UP!
