FESTIVAL SLOGAN CONTEST ENDS TODAY @ 5pm
RED ROCK, ON – Summer 2011 is around the corner and with it, the 9th Annual Live From the Rock Folk Festival. There is much to be done in preparation for the live festival including chosing a slogan, once again, organizers decided to chose a slogan with the help of an open contest. The Annual Live From the Rock Slogan Contest began February 1st and, as of February 24th, approximately 50 submissions had been received by festival volunteers, including several from Southern Ontario. As of 5pm this evening however, the contest will close, bringing the festival one step closer, an important milestone on the road to the festival says festival volunteer, Robin Cooper “The [slogan contest] is an important part of the festival, it gets people thinking about the festival – time flies and it will be august in no time!” said Cooper.
In addition to a prize of TWO (2) weekend passes to attend the Live From the Rock Folk Festival (LFTR), the slogan winner will have the pleasure of seeing their creativity branding of thousands of LFTR promotional materials including posters, brochures and t-shirts. Live from the Rock attracts visitors from accross North America – contest entrants are vying for the opportunity to have a hand in the marketing of one of Northern Ontario’s largest music festivals.
Among this years’ slogan contest entrants are past entrants including The Coulter’s from Marathon who are “The ones to beat” according to one festival volunteer; both Beverly and Madeline Coulter have submitted slogan entries for 2011 and each has a previous slogan win under her belt.
There have been some changes to the Live From the Rock volunteer executive for 2011; the festival’s founding artistic director, Liz Harvey-Foulds, is taking a year off to travel to China to teach for the summer. Standing in is Jennifer Ives. Though Jennifer lives in Southern Ontario, near Barrie, she is no stranger to Red Rock and Live From the Rock having played the festival several times. In her role as acting artistic director, Ives has been working diligently, putting together a first class lineup.
