Oscar Winners – CROSSOVER INSIDER

Tyler Davis slips into critic mode this week and lets us know his bets for the Oscars on Sunday...

As promised, today I will make my bold predictions for who will take home the big prizes at this year’s Acedemy Awards. First, let’s go over this week’s new releases. There are 9 of them in total covering almost every genre. Here they are:

Across the Line: starring Andy Garcia- Charlie, a Los Angeles billionaire, goes into self-imposed exile in Tijuana after his empire is revealed to have been a Ponzi scheme.  (DVD only)

Beauty and the Briefcase: starring Hailey Duff- A freelance writer looking for romance sells a story to Cosmopolitan magazine about finding love in the workplace and goes undercover at a Finance Company. (DVD and Blu Ray)

Due Date: starring Robert Downey Jr. And Zach Galifinakis- Father-to-be Peter Highman is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay on a road trip in order to make it to his child’s birth on time. What follows is a series of comedic events making it the road trip of a lifetime. (DVD and Blu Ray)

Killing Jar: starring Michael Madsen- A stranger armed with a shotgun takes seven patrons hostage in a remote roadside diner. But as the body count increases, the desperate survivors discover that one of the hostages may be even more dangerous than their captor. (DVD only)

Psych 9: starring Carey Elwes- Working alone at night in a recently closed hospital, an unstable woman witnesses events that may be connected to a string of murders. (DVD only)

Precious Life– Chronicles the struggle of an Israeli paediatrician and a Palestinian mother trying to get treatment for her ailing baby (Documentary) (DVD only)

Luke and Lucy: voice of Billy Ray Cyrus- Luke and Lucy, two inseparable friends, have to help out the Texas Rangers to prevent Jim Parasite from taking over the world. (DVD only)

Dorian Gray– A corrupt young man somehow keeps his youthful beauty eternally, but a special painting gradually reveals his inner ugliness to all. (DVD only)

Get Low: starring Robert Duvall and Bill Murray- With the help of funeral home owner, a mysterious Tennessee hermit plans to throw himself a funeral party while he is still alive. (DVD only)

For Colored Girls: starring Whoopi Goldberg- Each of the women portray one of the characters represented in the collection of twenty poems, revealing different issues that impact women in general and women of color in particular. (DVD and Blu Ray)

For the Gamers:

Killzone 3 (PS3)-  Part 3 of the extremely popular Killzone series! This game is “MOVE” and 3D compatible and can be played with a special assault gun attachment. Also available- The Helghast edition- which comes with a full sized helmet, collectors art book and more!

Bulletstorm (PS3 and 360)- Bulletstorm takes place in the 26th century, where the Confederation of Planets are protected by a secret black-ops army called Dead Echo.

And now it’s time for my predictions. I’ve put on my critics hat and have analyzed the contenders. There are many worthy contenders, but only 1 can win. Here goes nothing!

The Contenders: Amy Adams (The Fighter), Helena Bonham Carter (The Kings Speech), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Jacki Weaver (Animal Kindom)

My Pick: Melissa Leo (The Fighter)

BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE:

The Contenders: Javier Barden (Biutiful), Jeff Bridges (True Grit), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Colin Firth (The Kings Speech) and James Franco (127 Hours)

BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:

The Contenders: Christian Bale (The Fighter), John Hawkes (Winters Bone), Jeremy Renner (The Town), Mark Ruffalo (The Kids are All Right) and Geoffrey Rush (The Kings Speech)
