Forest Company Fined for Operating Unlicensed Aggregate Pit

February 24,  2010

A forestry company in Dorion has been fined for operating an unlicensed aggregate pit.

Kabi Lake Forest Products Inc. was fined $1,000 for excavating and hauling aggregate material without a licence or permit. The court also ordered the company to rehabilitate the site.

The court heard that during the winter of 2010, Kabi Lake Forest Products Inc. excavated and removed approximately 101 dump truck loads of gravel from an area that was outside of a licensed aggregate pit boundary on the Camp 81 Road in Nipigon District.

Justice of the Peace Ray Zuliani heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Nipigon, on February 7, 2011.

In Ontario, the extraction of aggregate is regulated and licensed by the Ministry of Natural Resources.  Operators require licences and permits that regulate the amount of material that can be extracted and how it can be used.

To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours.  You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
