Firecrews Respond When Woodstove Causes Problems In Manitouwadge

The first Fire Truck is on the scene to assist owners of the smoke-filled house.

MANITOUWADGE, ON – Monday, January 31st at approximately 9am, Manitouwadge Volunteer Fire Department answered a call to a home on Neebig Ave where smoke had backed up through the woodstove filling the residential home full of smoke.  Two fire trucks attended the scene, removing the contents of the woodstove and ventilating the home to clear smoke.  Acting Fire Chief Dennis Narbonne said the homeowners did the right thing in placing the call to their local fire department “They definitely had no other choice, with their home full of smoke” said Narbonne.  OntarioNewsNorth.com asked Chief Narbonne how others might avoid a similar situation “ Proper maintenance of heating equipment” was his answer, this includes woodstoves and chimneys as well as all other types of heating equipment which may be used to heat your home, be they electric furnaces or baseboards, pellet stoves, oil stoves or any other type of heating system.

There were no serious injuries reported as a result of this incident, in large part thanks to the quick actions of the homeowner and quick response of the Manitouwadge Volunteer Fire Department.

A 2nd firetruck arrives on the scene at approximately 9:20am.

Approximately an hour after the first truck arrived, fire crews have wrapped up their assistance and are on their way.
