MANITOUWADGE, ON – Saturday, January 28th, as part of Manitouwadge’s ongoing efforts to become Kraft Hockeyville 2011, the Copper Kings Atoms faced off against local law enforcement including Marathon/Manitouwadge OPP Detachment Officers and MNR staff. The game was well attended and fans in Manitouwadge Recreation Centre Arena stands were vocal. Referees Thomas Brandt and Kaitlyn Newton took full advantage of the opportunity to cuff and ‘jail’ the coppers in a penalty box decorated with bars for the occasion.
The game was only the beginning of the fun however, friendly competition continued with shoot outs and ‘bucket relay’ races. The later proved the downfall of the law enforcement team as some members did not fit into the provided bucket quite as well as their atom counterparts.
Organizers, Manitouwadge Minor Hockey Association Moms (a.k.a. Manitouwadge for Hockeyville volunteers) were very pleased with community support at the game, thankful to both teams for their community spirit and participation and hopeful that Manitouwadge’s community spirit would bring them to the head of the competition in regards to their Hockeyville 2011 efforts. F.P. Gorges and Sons (a.k.a. Franks’ Grocery Store) once again provided free hot dogs for both fans and players as well as kool-aid to keep everyone well hydrated.
Congratulations to all involved for another successful Manitouwadge for Hockeyville event!
