TRAIN/VEHICLE COLLISION MISSINAIBI
MISSINAIBI, ON – January 14, 2011 at 11:20 am Superior East OPP in Wawa attended an incident involving a pick-up truck and a CP Rail BUD car collision at the CP Rail crossing on Highway 651, West Twp just outside the village of MISSINAIBI, Ont. The eastbound rail car struck the pick-up truck at the crossing causing considerable damage to the truck. The rail car received moderate damage and there were no injuries to the CP crew. There were no passengers on board. The driver of the truck, 63 year old Henri Leo PLOUFFE of CHAPLEAU, Ont received only minor injuries and as a result of investigation has been charged with “Stop Wrong Place at Rail Road Crossing” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
STOLEN PLATES LEAD TO SEVERAL CHARGES
WHITE RIVER, ON – January 14, 2011 at 12:55 pm Superior East OPP in White River had occasion to check a northbound 1996 Chev Lumina on Highway 17, Vasiloff Twp near White River. A check of the Ontario Licence plate revealed that the plates had been reported stolen in October 2010 by Thunder Bay Police Service. The vehicle was stopped and the male driver was arrested for possession of the stolen plates. As a result of further investigation a quantity of Marihuana was located in the vehicle. A check of the subject’s Ontario driver’s licence showed that he had a number of current suspensions. 48 year old Carlos RICHTER of TIMMINS, Ontario was subsequently charged with;
- Possess Marihuana under 30 grams
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime in relation to the Ontario Licence Plates
- Operate a motor vehicle without Insurance
- Drive motor vehicle while under suspension
- Fail to apply for vehicle permit upon becoming owner
- Use plates not authorized for vehicle
Mr RICHTER’S vehicle was seized for seven days as well. He will appear in Wawa court at a later date to answer to the charges.
PURSE STOLEN, MALE CHARGED
WHITE RIVER, ON – January 15, 2011 at 12:40 pm a report was received that a male had stolen a new purse which had been on display at a local business in WHITE RIVER and had left in a dark coloured Mercedes with Quebec licence plates. The vehicle had been observed proceeding westbound on Highway 17. The vehicle was subsequently stopped by The OPP in MARATHON. Officers located the stolen purse in a ditch just east of where the vehicle had been stopped. As a result of investigation 49 year old Teodor ORASANU of TORONTO, Ontario was charged with “Theft Under $5000.00” and released on a Recognizance returnable on March 7, 2011 at Wawa court.
FAIL TO REMAIN, DRIVER CHARGED
DUBREUILVILLE, ON – January 16, 2011 at 2:30 am a resident in DUBREUILVILLE reported that a vehicle had struck the complainant’s two vehicles at his residence and the driver had left the scene. Superior East OPP in Wawa attended and an investigation was conducted. As a result of evidence located at the scene of the collisions the offending vehicle was identified. As a result of further investigation 27 year old Francois LACROIX of DUBREUILVILLE, Ontario stands charged with Failing to Remain at the scene of an Accident returnable on March 17, 2011 at Wawa Court.
