NOSP Gives Back To Its Communities
North of Superior Counselling Programs Raises Funds for District Community Food Banks
January 19, 2010
NIPIGON, ON – North of Superior Counselling Programs staff and Board members launched a funding raising initiative to support Food Banks in their communities over the holiday season for the second year in a row. For many, the Holiday Season is a time of happiness, giving and getting together with family and friends for a festive meal and sharing of gifts. Many of us are fortunate to have our fridges and cupboards filled with plenty of food for our families and ourselves. Unfortunately, many people in our communities are turning to Food Banks to meet their most basic need for meals. Due to the economic situation in many of the District communities, it has resulted in many people being unemployed and relying on Food Banks. Local food banks are turning to the public and businesses to help them meet the demands. North of Superior Counselling Programs felt that it was important to do their part in giving back to our communities!
“We invited each one of our staff, management and Board members to make a contribution to the Food Bank Fundraiser. We set a goal of raising $1500 and hoped to exceed that amount so North of Superior Counselling Programs could contribute funds to each one of the NOSP community Food Banks,” says Executive Director, Bastian De Peuter. Several staff had already contributed to Food Banks in their community, both in volunteering and in providing donations. Staff & Board members challenged each other by setting the bar higher and exceeded their fund raising target. De Peuter says; “Thanks to the staff, managers and Board members for their involvement and contributions, a total of $1618 was raised for the NOSP FOOD BANK FUNDRAISER DRIVE. This helps provide support to in our communities Food Banks so some people who need help will have a brighter Christmas”.
North of Superior Counselling Programs has six offices located throughout the region. They are located in Geraldton, Longlac, Nipigon, Schreiber, Marathon, and Manitouwadge and provide children and adult mental health and addiction counselling to areas surrounding those communities. NOSP also provides a friendly visiting program and a home maintenance program to Seniors by volunteers. You can become a volunteer by contacting the agency and provide a helping hand.
