Health Unit Hosts Appointment Only Flu Shot Clinic
Due to an overwhelming demand for the flu shot at the Health Unit’s weekly Wednesday immunization clinic, an appointment-only clinic has been scheduled for Monday, January 31 from 9:00 to 11:00 am.
Over the past three Wednesdays, Health Unit nurses have given 171 flu shots at its weekly immunization clinic held on Wednesdays. The demand may be due to the increase in flu activity in other parts of the province.
“We scheduled this special clinic on Monday, January 31 to alleviate some of the congestion we are seeing on Wednesdays,” say Darlene Binette, Manager of Infectious Diseases.
“Our Wednesday clinic is very busy this time of year for travel and school immunizations, so we hope this appointment-only clinic is more convenient for those wanting only a flu shot, and will also cut down the waiting times on Wednesdays.”
This type of flu shot clinic is unlike the usual drop-in clinics held in the community each fall because only those people with an appointment will be seen. The appointment-only clinic model will be evaluated for efficiency and public satisfaction. It may be offered in the future if necessary.
Appointments for the flu clinic can be made by calling 625-5903. A limited number of appointments are available, so those who are interested should call as soon as possible to reserve a time.
Individuals can also contact their health care provider to ask about receiving a flu shot, as the flu season lasts until the end of April.
