NIPIGON, ON – Friday December 3, 2010 at approximately 9:40 p.m. Nipigon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended Hwy 11 and 17 at Pearl for a motor vehicle collision. A west bound pick up truck collided head on with an east bound passenger vehicle. The 45 year old male driver of the passenger car, Gaetan ST-ONGE, of Longlac, Ontario, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger was transported by ambulance to Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre. Her medical condition is unknown at this time. The four occupants of the pick up truck, including the 24 year old male driver of Manitouwadge, Ontario, were transported by ambulance to Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre for non life threatening injuries.
Hwy 11 and 17 was closed for approximately four and a half hours while officers from the Nipigon detachment and the North West Region Highway Safety Division investigated the collision. The investigation is continuing.
