Parks Canada Releases New Book for the Holidays
Canada’s National Parks: A Celebration
Just in Time for the Holidays – A New, Lavishly Illustrated Book
December 15, 2010
THUNDER BAY, ON,
– Just in time for the holiday season, Parks Canada and Canopy have launched Canada’s National Parks: A Celebration, a lavishly illustrated book commemorating both the 125th anniversary of the founding of the country’s first national park (Banff, Alberta) and the upcoming centennial of Parks Canada as the world’s first national parks service. Canada’s National Parks: A Celebration
features more than 200 breathtaking colour photos of each of the country’s 42 parks, including several of Pukaskwa National Park. This large-format, hardcover volume brings together the work of some of Canada’s most respected contemporary photographers. It also contains locator maps, concise descriptions of each park and some memorable historic images of park visitors over the last century. Canada’s National Parks: A Celebration
is also a “green book” – i.e., printed on papers that are 100% free of fibre from endangered forests. To achieve this result, Parks Canada partnered with Canopy, a Canadian NGO and the publisher of this volume. Canopy works to protect the world’s forests, species and climate by helping publishers, printers and paper producers to adopt environmentally-friendly practices.
In keeping with the holiday spirit, Parks Canada also wishes to make a gift to Canadians. Canada’s National Parks: A Celebration also includes a detachable coupon that can be redeemed for a free family/group day pass at any Parks Canada national park, national historic site or national marine conservation area – a value of up to $44. Canada’s National Parks: A Celebration retails for $29.95 and is available at Archambault, Indigo/Chapters/Coles, and other booksellers throughout Canada.
