Over 9,000 Good Jobs For Ontario Families In 2010
McGuinty Government Partnered With More Than 60 Businesses This Year
In 2010, Ontario has partnered with over 60 businesses creating and supporting more than 9,000 new, good, long-term jobs that will benefit Ontario families.
With the province’s partnership, businesses have seen positive and encouraging developments in 2010:
- Max Aicher North America Inc. of Hamilton – It is re-opening a steel mill used primarily by global auto manufacturers operating in North America, and creating 300 new, good jobs.
- L-3 WESCAM of Burlington – Specializing in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems for the aerospace sector, L-3 WESCAM is expanding the next generation of aerospace systems, creating 375 jobs.
- Sandvine of Waterloo – The business is developing network solutions that will help meet growing consumer demand in more than 80 countries for new applications, creating 75 jobs.
- Ford Essex engine plant in Windsor – It will be implementing new manufacturing processes and establishing the North American Centre for Diesel and Advanced Powertrain Technology, Research and Innovation, supporting 757 jobs at the plant.
- Toyota Boshoku Canada Inc. of Woodstock – The plant produces interior components for the Toyota RAV4 vehicle and with the province’s partnership, it installed state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment which has seen the plant grow from 22 employees to 380 – creating 358 jobs.
- Roxul Inc. in Milton – Since partnering with the province to help the business manufacture new insulation used in industrial, commercial and residential buildings, Roxul has created 100 new jobs at their Milton facility.
- Huawei in Ottawa – One of the world’s leading telecommunications technology companies announced a major investment in its research and development centre which is expected to create 164 good jobs.
- Ferrero Canada of Brantford – A new, state-of-the-art confectionary manufacturing facility is helping the business upgrade equipment, expand production, and create 40 new jobs.
- Open Text in Waterloo, Richmond Hill and Ottawa – The business is developing new, innovative digital media products, while creating 400 new, good jobs.
Partnering with local business is a key component of the Open Ontario plan to create new good for Ontario families and promote economic growth.

- As a result of the province’s comprehensive tax package, the marginal effective tax rate on business investment in Ontario is being cut in half, making Ontario businesses more globally competitive.
- Ontario has reduced overall business taxes by 28 per cent over 3 years, reduced small business income taxes by 18 per cent and has also eliminated the small business deduction surtax entirely.
- Ontario has regained 87 per cent of the jobs lost during the recession.
