Alan Ouellet, Owner Footstomp Apparel which he launched after participating in a program with the SNCFDC.
Monday, December 6th, the provincial government announced that beginning January 1, 2011, the province will accept applications from Mixed Martial Arts promoters who want to stage professional events in Ontario; ‘A major MMA event in Ontario could attract up to 30,000 fans and generate up to $6 million in local economic activity’ read the release but Allan Ouellet, Owner of Footstomp Fightwear and Apparel from Longlac says benefits go beyond the economic stimuli for communities welcoming events.
Ouellet, who competed in Mixed Martial Arts before becoming an entrepreneur, said the announcement was no surprise “I know first hand how diligent the Dr’s and sanctioning bodies are about competitors health” said Ouellet pointing out that with what he believes is some of the most “stringent testing for competition” of any sport in the world MMA’s welcome to Ontario was overdue.
Discussing the ‘other’ benefits of Mixed Martial Arts competitions in Ontario, one perspective suggested the sport gives an outlet for people who feel aggression due to stress or inactivity, those people who thrive from the intense physical and mental demands of MMA. Ouellet said “The fitness aspect that the various Mixed Martial Arts sports bring to the supporting communities is one of the areas in which the general public will benefit from the legislation being put into place within our province.
Footstomp’s owner predicts Mixed Martial Arts will ‘spread through Ontario like wild fire’ and he is confident that the benefits of this sport will surely shine through. Among those benefits which Ouellet says will be most impactful to the general public not involved in MMA are
- New fitness and conditioning classes, essential building blocks to serious competitors, will be offered bringing opportunity for the general public to take part in training which may be geared for a multitude of fitness levels;
- Familiarity of nutritional and healthy living information that becomes more commonly known through these types of training and high intensity sports
