Marathon Mayor Frustrated with Province (+Video)
PRESS RELEASE from TOWN of MARATHON
December 21, 2010
MARATHON, ON – For the better part of twelve months, the Town of Marathon and the Marathon Economic Development Corporation have been working with a private proponent, strategizing and completing business due diligence to complete a repurposement of the Marathon Mill Brownfield Site. While much due diligence and feasibility has been completed by the proponent and the community, one key outstanding item that remains at large is a long term, secure and committed fibre supply for the Marathon site from the Ontario Government.
“I can’t understand why there has been this inaction on the part of the Ontario Government with respect to the fibre issue, its very frustrating.” states Marathon Mayor Rick Dumas, adding that “We have a legitimate buyer who wants to work with Marathon and put people in our community back to work, yet we have asked and gotten no commitments from the Province that the necessary fibre will be granted to make this venture happen. There is really nothing more we can do at the local leve, everything sits with the Province.”
