Snowmobile Fails to Stop for Police – Driver Charged
GERALDTON, ON – December 27, 2010, an officer with the Ontario Provincial Police Greenstone Detachment was on patrol in the town of Geraldton when the officer observed a Motorized Snow Vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Main Street.
The officer attempted to stop the snowmobile using the lights and siren and the snowmobile failed to stop for police.
Investigation revealed the driver to be Roberto OUELLET, 35 years of age of Geraldton. OUELLET has been charged with failing to stop for a police officer, making a false statement, speeding in excess of 20km/h, on a highway where the limit is 50km/h or less, careless driving, driving with no insurance and failing to notify change of ownership, all offences contrary the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act.
OUELLET is to attend at Provincial Offences Court in Geraldton on January 25, 2011 to answer to two of the charges.
The OPP would like to remind everyone that the speed limit on 50 km/h town roadways for motorized snow vehicles is 20 km/h. Speed is a major factor in many collisions, many of them being at night. Day and night, snowmobilers must always be aware of the speed at which they are riding, always keeping the speed of the snowmobile slow enough to ensure they are in control of it and operating safely. Never exceed speed limits that are posted on trails or roadways.
