McGuinty Government Supports 350 Skilled Jobs In High-Tech Sector

Ontario is supporting 350 highly-skilled research and development jobs in Ottawa and Belleville.

The province is supporting Avaya Canada Corporation, a leader in business communications technology that integrates voice, text, and video communications.  This technology helps a business operate more efficiently and makes it possible for families to work from home and avoid commuting.

Working proactively to promote the province’s technology sector and support high-value jobs is part of the government’s five-year Open Ontario Plan.

QUICK FACTS

  • Avaya is investing a total of $165 million for its Canadian R&D capabilities, with the province providing $5 million to support the project.
  • Ontario’s information and communications technology sector employs about 284,000 people and in 2008 accounted for $28.4 billion in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
  • As a result of the province’s comprehensive tax package, the marginal effective tax rate on business investment in Ontario is being cut in half, making Ontario businesses more competitive.
