NIPIGON, ON –During the weekend of November 5 to November 7, 2010 Nipigon/Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) issued 60 Provincial Offence Notices and responded to 34 calls for service. Officers investigated two motor vehicle collisions and conducted eight R.I.D.E. checks.

On November 5 at approximately 4:05 p.m. Schreiber OPP attended a single motor vehicle collision on the Terrace Bay Mill Road, 2 km North of Hwy 17, Township of Strey. A tractor trailer unit travelling south bound left the roadway and rolled into the west side ditch. The 53 year old male driver of Shuniah Township, Ontario was transported to McCausland Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Schreiber OPP attended a single motor vehicle collision on Hwy 17, Township of Yesno, on November 6 at 8:45 a.m. The driver of a pickup truck travelling west bound lost control of the vehicle on an icy section of the road. The vehicle left the road and struck a rock cut. The 38 year old female driver and the 57 year old female passenger from Marathon, Ontario, were transported by ambulance to McCausland Hospital for non life threatening injuries.

Police want to remind motorists to be aware of changing weather and road conditions this time of year. Motorists are asked to be cautious of black ice on the highway and to reduce driving speed to accommodate the road conditions. Remember, it’s better to arrive late than not at all, drive safe.
