Premier McGuinty Pays Tribute To Soldiers At Queen’s Park

Ontarians gathered at a Ceremony of Remembrance at Queen’s Park Thursday to honour our war veterans.
Premier Dalton McGuinty joined Brigadier-General F.A. Lewis, Major-General Richard Rohmer (Retired), members of the Canadian Forces, cadets and school children in paying tribute to soldiers past and present for their sacrifice and duty.

The ceremony included a reading of In Flanders Fields, a youth pledge and a 21-gun salute performed by the 7th Toronto Regiment RCA National Defence. Representatives of veterans groups and 13 countries also laid wreaths.
This is the fifth commemoration to take place at The Veterans’ Memorial. Over 1,000 people attended last year’s ceremony.

- Ontario honours war heroes with a special veterans’ licence plate, featuring a red poppy, and will have a veterans’ plate for motorcycles available by spring 2011.
